This policy explains what personal information The Decentral collects when you use thedecentral.news, why we collect it, and the choices and rights you have. We collect as little as we need, and we never sell your personal information.
Who we are
The Decentral (“we”, “us”) publishes crypto, blockchain and crypto tax news at thedecentral.news. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. For any privacy question or request, contact us.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Newsletter: your email address, if you subscribe.
- Contact form: your name, email address, the subject you choose and your message.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records standard technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the date and time. This is used to keep the site secure and working, and is not used to identify you personally.
How we use your information
- To send you our newsletter, if you subscribed.
- To reply to messages, story tips and correction requests you send us.
- To keep the site secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We rely on your consent for the newsletter, and on our legitimate interest in running and protecting the site and responding to you for everything else.
Cookies and tracking
We don't currently use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't use third-party trackers. If that changes, we'll update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
Who we share information with
We share personal information only with service providers who help us run the site:
- our website hosting provider;
- our email and newsletter provider, to deliver the newsletter and handle messages.
These providers may only use your information to provide their service to us. We may also disclose information if the law requires it. We never sell or rent your personal information.
Some features rely on third parties without sharing your details. Cryptocurrency prices are requested by our servers, not your browser, so the price provider never receives your information. Links to other sites, such as X and Reddit, are covered by those sites' own privacy policies once you follow them.
International transfers
Our service providers may process information in countries other than yours. Where they do, we take steps to make sure your information stays protected in line with this policy and applicable law.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Contact messages: for as long as we need to respond and keep a reasonable record.
- Server logs: for a limited period, as set by our hosting provider.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, POPIA in South Africa, or US state privacy laws), you may have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information;
- object to or restrict how we use it;
- withdraw your consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing;
- complain to your local data protection authority.
To use any of these rights, contact us. Every newsletter will also include a link to unsubscribe.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, and the site is served over an encrypted connection. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Children
The Decentral is not directed at children under 18, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add new features. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed.
